This section of the manual explains how to manage custom types of objects, available through the Administration module.
Objects are system elements with specific properties (such as events, assets, threats, people, etc.), which can be classified into types. Certain objects such as assets and events have default types that come with the system installation. For example, Person and Technology are default asset types, while Risk and Generic are default event types. New object types allow objects to be categorized more thoroughly according to the organization's needs. It is also possible to create new types of custom objects, and for this simply enable this option when creating the object.
There are four default asset types (Person, Process, Environment, and Technology) and three default event types (Risk, Compliance, and Generic). For business components, the system includes two levels (Strategic and Tactical), as well as one business component type per level (Macro-Process for strategic components and Organizational System for tactical components).
If an on-demand module (ERM, Policy, Events, Continuity etc.) is enabled, the objects related to the module will also be available, each with its’ default types.
The default object types cannot be edited or deleted, except for default event types. These can be edited to assign a person or group as manager of all events of a certain type, as well as enable association with plans from the Continuity module (on-demand) and enterprise risks from the ERM solution (on-demand).
Attributes can be applied to specific object types or all types, allowing additional information to be provided that is specific to an object of that type. For details on creating attributes applied to specific object types, see Chapter 17: Administration -> Customizations -> Objects and Attributes.
