Scheduled Events

This topic provides orientation on registering and managing scheduled events.

All scheduled events in this solution must be registered within a context, which is a macro classification for the purpose of grouping events similar in nature. For example, if the solution is being used to manage large-scale sporting competitions, sample contexts include: FIFA Confederations Cup 2013, World Cup 2014, and Olympics 2016. When monitoring events through the agenda, map, or timeline, the context must first be selected so that only events from that context will be displayed. Contexts are registered in the Manage Contexts section of this solution before events can be registered.

A scheduled event is an object listed in the Objects and Attributes section of the Administration module. Custom types of events can be created in the Object Types section, and any attributes created can be applied to one or more types. Once any necessary types and attributes are registered, events can be registered by providing data for the main properties and any attributes.

The resources to be used, the routes to be taken, and the participants involved are also specified when a scheduled event is registered. Available resources and routes must be previously registered in the Manage Available Resources and Manage Routes sections of this solution, respectively, while participants are people registered in the Manage People section of the Organization module. All of these objects support custom attributes that can be created in the Administration module. In addition, the location of the event can be specified by selecting an Environment-type asset previously registered in the Administration module and events and routes can be associated with enterprise risks registered in the ERM solution.

Once registered, the associated activities and assigned resources necessary to carry out the event can be registered, with their expected durations, locations, and routes, in addition to any other custom attributes. Note that assigned resources are the resources that will be used in a particular event (for example, an event that will require fifteen ambulances), and they are created and associated with a scheduled event during event registration in the Manage Scheduled Events section. Available resources, on the other hand, indicate the pool of resources available for use in any event (for example, fifty ambulances from the city hospital), and are registered separately in the Manage Available Resources section so that they can later be compared against assigned resources. While associated activities and assigned resources are also custom objects for which attributes can be created, these objects are always registered under a main scheduled event and cannot be registered separately.
